Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, is among five men reportedly arrested Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigator.
The alleged assault occurred during an operation to seize two vehicles suspected of having been smuggled into Zimbabwe from South Africa. Further details surrounding the arrests and the circumstances of the alleged attack remain unclear.
Mugabe was deported from South Africa on April 29, 2026, after paying R600,000 in fines for violating immigration laws and pointing an object resembling a firearm at someone in a separate incident.
He had initially been arrested alongside his cousin, Tobias Matonhodze, following the February shooting of a worker at a Johannesburg residence. Mugabe was not convicted of attempted murder, while Matonhodze pleaded guilty to the offence and received a three-year prison sentence.
More details to follow.
